Toyosu Market – The New Food Capital of Tokyo
April 18, 2025
Toyosu Market is Tokyo’s new central wholesale market, relocated from Tsukiji Market in October 2018. As the world’s largest seafood market, fresh seafood is gathered daily from all over Japan and the world. The market is open to the public and visitors can enjoy a variety of gourmet foods made from fresh ingredients.
1. Attractions of the Toyosu Market
Toyosu Market is a clean and modern market equipped with the latest facilities. It is divided into a seafood wholesale area, a produce wholesale area, and a restaurant and souvenir store area for the general public. We recommend tourists experience the early morning auction tour and to enjoy themselves with a nice meal at a restaurant.
2. Our Recommended Gourmet Spots
Kaisen-don Oedo
A popular restaurant where people line up for an hour+ at lunch time. It has been in business for over 100 years and offers more than 40 kinds of fresh seafood that it purchases every morning. The best part is that you can make your own original Kaisen-don by combining your favorite ingredients.

3. Tips for Visiting
When visiting Toyosu Market, it is recommended to go early in the morning. Popular stores in particular have lines out the door before they open, so visiting early will reduce the wait time. Also, many stores are closed on Sundays, holidays, and market closures, so check the days the market is open before visiting.
The Toyosu Market’s fusion of fresh seafood and craftsmanship makes it a rare opportunity to experience Japan’s culinary culture.
